Locally-based (but nationally-networking) website Gurp City South presents a family reunion. Not the Jell-O salad and croquet competition sort of family reunion, though. This is The Fist Family, a formerly-local rap group.
“When the Fist Family left Asheville about five years back, they had been voted most popular rap group in WNC [by Xpress readers] two years running,” says G.F.E. rapper Foul Mouth Jerk (who is also behind Gurp City South, “a central point tying together several national hip hop artists/groups, that are mainly based out of Asheville and San Francisco, and a home and promotional center for Asheville hip-hop as a whole.” Gurp City South artists include Jerk, TopR, The Ville Boyz, Adam Strange, DJ Football and the Fist Family).
Back to the Fist Family story: “They have come back to play shows once a year since,” says Jerk. “And right now they are in the midst of their latest full length release Posted, which is getting a fair amount of love in the Bay Area and national press.”

The album will come out on vinyl only (each record comes with a download card for a digital version). The record release coincides with several album-related video releases. It also coincides with the Asheville reunion.
The album release party takes place on Friday, June 10 at the Emerald Lounge. Guests include Adam Strange, The Ville Boyz, TopR, Foul Mouth Jerk and DJ Football. 9 p.m., $5.
