• Castell Photography holds an opening reception for Rebecca Drolen‘s Particular Histories exhibit. Says Castell, “Particular Histories is a series of images which are constructions of daydreams, longings, memories, and fears as they pertain to aging and the transition from childhood to the acceptance of adult roles.” Drolen was last year’s Juror’s Choice award winner at Castell’s juried show, Human Condition. This year’s juried show, Manipulated, is still on display and will hang beside Particular Histories. The opening runs from 6-8 p.m.
• The Artery celebrates the opening of Third Nature, an exhibit of work by Virginia Dewberry. “In my large scale narrative figure paintings set in invented landscapes, I have sought a dynamic rather than a formulaic balance between the ideal and the real. The narratives are drawn from multiple myths, but the figures are portraits of specific individuals who are well known to me rather than idealized types,” says Dewberry in her artist statement. Her ideas are drawn from Greek, Roman and Etruscan mythology, Christian iconography, Jewish mysticism and ancient alchemy. The opening takes place from 6-9 p.m.
