Get your Asheville photo on!

The second Day in the Life of Asheville photo project takes off this week, so all area photographers need to get out there and shoot our city and its residents.

The first DILOA project took place on Saturday, April 14, 2007, when 25 photographers shot thousands of photos during a 24-hour period. To see the slide show of the judge’s final 150 photos, click here.

For the Fall edition of DILOA, photographers can pick any 24 hours within the seven-day period from Monday, Oct. 1 to Sunday, Oct. 7, in which to document a day in the life of Asheville. As photographer Zen Sutherland says, “Your day might not be my day.”

Any and all photographers are welcome to submit up to 24 shots that they consider representative of Asheville. The primary requirement is that the photos (either digital or film) must be uploaded to the DILOA Flickr site by Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Each participant may pick one picture, a “Photographer’s Choice” shot, which will be included in the final group regardless of the judge’s final choices.

Also, DILOA doesn’t accept photos that have been significantly altered, although a bit of lightening and cropping is OK.

Prints of all final photos are donated to the Asheville-Buncombe County Library system for their North Carolina collection, so photographers must be willing to share their shots. A show of the Judges’ and Photographers’ Choice photos will be displayed at the downtown Asheville library in November.

So clean your equipment, check your calendar to see which 24-hour period works best for you, and go shoot Asheville!
