The Mountain Xpress is happy to announce the winners of our ticket give away for the Broadway National Tour of Hairspray, performed at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium.
Asheville resident Diane Pennington spent 25 years working in professional theater and shares a passion for the stage with her six-year-old daughter. Pennington wrote to Xpress: “My daughter is already a theatre fanatic with stars in her eyes — she can sing ‘Honeybun’ at the top of her lungs and has been nagging me to see Hairspray since she heard about it. Please help her reach for the stars by allowing her to see young people doing this professionally.”
Brent Brown and his daughter, who plans to be a theater major once she graduates from high school, are thrilled to see Hairspray performed in their hometown. Brown wrote to the Xpress: “My daughter saw the movie and fell in love with it. We can’t make it to New York, so having this musical available here would be a blessing and to see it for free, doubly so! (She’s also a big John Waters fan, especially since seeing Cry Baby with Johnny Depp.)”
Lori Theriault is excited to take her goddaughter, an aspiring actress, to Hairspray. When entering the contest Theriault told Xpress: “My young goddaughter loves the theater, and this is just the sort of experience that would inspire her for her dream.”
And last but not least, Jeremy Carter. Carter is a self-proclaimed “theater geek on a limited budget.” Carter also wrote: “I’m a blogger and will give mad props to the Xpress if I win. And I’ll make you all cookies.”
Congratulations to all our winners and thank you for entering our online ticket give away. Enjoy the show. And Carter, there are over 40 employees at the Xpress who expect cookies!
Hurrah Jer! So glad you won, you big geek!
Congrats to all winners. Enjoy the show.
Did I say Johnny Deep? I meant Jimmy Depp, of course!
Thanks MountainX!!!
Brebro: There is no typo. There was never any typo. (Ain’t the internet grand? Once you get past the Orwellian implications, I mean.)
I goodthink you are correct.
I was serious about the cookies. Keep an eye out, Xpress folk.
And thanks, Edgy!
Jer,
We like chocolate. Lots of it.
Oh and Congrats on winning those tickets.
By the way, the performance was kind of awesome. I was expecting something a bit more road weary, which has been my experience with many touring post-Broadway shows. Not so with this version of “Hairspray,” which I liked very much. Solid performances all around, great sets and the music was very impressive considering the smallish scale of the orchestra.
