Local wiccan activists and authors Lady Passion (Dixie Deerman) and *Diuvei (former Xpress staffer Steven Rasmussen) went mainstream in 2005 with their 496-page spellcraft tome The Goodly Spellbook: Olde Spells For Modern Problems. The book, published by Sterling Publishing (a division of Barnes & Noble) did quite well for itself, even being released as an Italian edition the following year.
But no book can truly be considered as part of the mainstream until it leaps one final hurdle: getting into a book club. This week, the duo from Coven Oldenwilde’s book did just that. The Goodly Spellbook is currently slated for a fresh printing through the One Spirit book club, which is owned by the Book-of-the-Month Club. Expect to see thumbnail-sized images of the book’s new cover (black, with gold foil and “resembling a bible” according to Deerman) on thousands of magazine inserts later this year.
Hi – just a note. Wicca is a religion and should be capitalized. Peace, Sherry
