Joseph Arthur came through Asheville on Wednesday, Sept. 14. He’s currently on tour in support of his latest album, The Graduation Ceremony, and will appear at the Austin City Limits festival this Sunday. He recently played at PJ20 celebrating Pearl Jam’s 20th anniversary.
Arthur performed at the Grey Eagle to a small but enthusiastic crowd. He covered most of Graduation as well as material from his extensive back catalog including spoken-word pieces “Yer Only Job” and “I Miss the Zoo.” He completed a large painting on stage, and then played a short acoustic set at the merch booth at the end of the evening.
Xpress videographer Jesse Hamm captured singer/songwriter Joseph Arthur performing “Cry Like A Man” while live-painting. Photographer Rich Orris covered the entire show (below).
