Could a trip to Disney World or a weekend at Bonnaroo inspire the next generation of lifelong learners? Maybe yes, if the tickets are garnered as part of Claxton Elementary School of Arts and Humanities’ Light the Night fundraiser.
The local magnet school, which uses the arts a critical component in student achievement, is hosting its biggest fundraiser of the year on Friday, Feb. 1. The evening’s silent auction items are plentiful, including Brewgrass tickets, Disney World passes, Asheville Racquet Club memberships and even a year’s worth of wings from Wild Wing Cafe.
The festivities will include music by DJ Deft, along with food and drink from Asheville Pizza, Avenue M, Clingman Café, Empire Distributing, Fresh Market, Greenlife, Luella’s, Moe’s BBQ, Oskar Blues Brewery and more. The proceeds will benefit Claxton’s Storytelling Festival, LEAF in Schools and Streets, field trip scholarships and classroom supplies.
Light the Night silent auction will be held on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. at Homewood, 19 Zillicoa St. $25. Info: www.clxpto.blogspot.com.
