New band alert: Run Boy Run

If you’re already a fan of Young Couples (currently vying for a Bele Chere slot through the Last Band Standing competition), you should probably check out Run Boy Run. The jazz-pop band is fronted by Young Couples’ guitarist/singer Jared Hooker.

The band recalls Steely Dan and Sade, but without being stuck in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Hooker’s clear vocal and impressive range drives the songs, which are tightly crafted and impeccably rendered. The band includes Billy Seals, Dan Wedge, Kevin Harvey and Will Beasley.

Run Boy Run performs its first show at Mo Daddy’s on Friday, June 10. Baby Rattlesnakes and Dark Eyes also share the bill. Showtime is 10:30 p.m., cover is $5.
