Remember back when, if you wanted to see comedy in Asheville, you had to take your khaki-wearing conservative relatives to the drum circle? Maybe not. But these days, there’s not only a wealth of open mics, and stand up shows, but comedy tours are finding their way through Asheville as well.
On Thursday, Dec. 19, the Port City Comedy Tour makes a stop at The LAB. The show includes four comics from Wilmington, N.C. According to a press release:
“Steve Marcinowski (Cape Fear Comedy Festival 2012-2013, NCCAF 2012) has been performing stand up and improv comedy for four years. His unique Boston upbringing allows a view of life only New England can offer. Steve has opened for Rory Scovel, Joe DeRosa, Rick Shapiro, and Todd Glass. Deemed ‘hilarious’ by Todd Glass, Marcinowski exudes an energy on stage that’s engaging and contagiously fun.
“Louis Bishop (Laughfest 2013, CFCF 2012-2013) takes the normal and twists it to the absurd. His hilarious takes on common situations make audiences groan and laugh. He is smart and slightly twisted, and keeps the audience guessing and laughing uproariously throughout. Louis has also performed with Vanilla Ice. Yup, Vanilla Ice.
“Colton DeMonte (CFCF 2013) had a dream as a young boy to make people laugh, not just at, him but with him, too. He was born in frozen tundra of Rochester, N.Y. and raised in the scorching sands of the south in Wilmington N.C. He started comedy in December 2009, doing improv first, then he tried stand-up comedy. He placed second in Port City’s Top Comic 2013. He has opened Kyle Grooms, Sean Patton, and Todd Glass.
“Matt White (Laugh Your Asheville Off 2013, Ventura Comedy Festival 2013, Boston Comedy Arts Festival 2012-2013, CFCF 2010-2013, NCCAF 2013) is a comedian/writer/actor. His brand of observational humor mixed with his quick wit and his improv training leaves crowds wanting more. Comedy is his passion and he loves making others smile, giggle, laugh, cry, etc. He performs improvisational comedy, stand up comedy and sketch comedy. He also produces stand up, improv, and sketch comedy shows. He is the creator/artistic director of the Seriously Clowning Comedy Group (2005-Current). White has won The Lazy Pirate’s ‘Last Comic Standing Contest 2013,’ DSI Comedy’s ‘Carolina’s Funniest Comic 2013’ and ‘Port City’s Top Comic, 2012.’ White has opened for Alonzo Bodden, Tig Notaro, Nephew Tommy, Tom Simmons, Joe Clair, Tony Woods, Eddie Brill, and Landry.”
Doors at 8 p.m., show at 9 p.m. $10.
