Run don’t walk to the Howlies this afternoon

“Fans of sweet, harmonizing, destructo garage TAKE NOTE!” say the folks at Static Age Records. The Atlanta-based band (and recent POPAsheville alums) will play for free at 5 p.m. at Static Age on Lexington Avenue before bringing their mighty fine rock ‘n roll to the New French Bar tonight.

Before you go, read the Howlies blog cause it’s funny. A Jan. 29 excerpt: “It is the eve of Howlies’ 2009 World Tour, and I am sequestered in a secret location somewhere in Eastern North Carolina, doing lots of transcendental meditation and preparing my body for the road. This tour will take us to SXSW. Will Howlies play Rachel Ray’s now-infamous day party? I cannot say at this time, but if so, expect to see Mrs. Ray herself onstage with us dueting the Who’s classic rock anthem ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again.’”

Their album “Trippin’ with Howlies” drops today. And we got an e-mail saying Asheville Howlies fans brought Howlies cupcakes to the band’s most recent show.

Cupcakes. Antics. Rawk. What more do you need?
