Show-Me Burlesque promises to take it off with class

The Show-Me Burlesque Festival, launched in St. Louis, Mo., in May 2010, was so successful that festival producer and burlesque performer Lola van Ella decided to create a touring troupe, taking Show-Me’s classy, sexy and edgy cabaret-style burlesque to cities across the southeast. Dedicated to “glitz, glam and fabulous burlesque, boylesque [and] Vaudeville,” as described on the troupe’s website, Show-Me promises to take it off with class, performing this Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Boiler Room, at the Grove House Entertainment Complex at 11 Grove St., in downtown Asheville.

International burlesque dancer, singer and seasoned performed, Ella – who will emcee the event – has taken the stage in Berlin, Amsterdam, Nuremburg and Jamaica, earning her title as “The Derriere Beyond Compare” one “devastating shimmy” at a time. With “a flair for theatrics and storytelling, with tasteful costuming, group choreography, pyrotechnics, aerial acrobatics and even a Chaplinesque tramp,” Show-Me promises to offer much more than sexy strip tease.

Doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10. Info: www.thegrovehouse.com or 505-1612.
