Silver Machine launches its newest venture: Space travel

Self-described “space rock pioneers” Silver Machine reports that, inspired by the recent rapture “and the unfolding of world events,” the band has decided to launch its most ambitious project to date. That apparently involves long term travel via studio-equipped space craft from which the band plans to beam transmissions back to earth.

Luckily, this surreal happening is preceded by a fairly tangible launch party, slated for The Orange Peel on Saturday, June 10 at 9 p.m. The show, also a local electronic showcase, includes Sonmi Suite, Don Winsley and Graviton Project. $5.

Silver Machine is an “organic psychedelic trance rock band formed in Asheville in March 2008, featuring members of The Royal We and Fuzzy Bucket from right here in Asheville, Pond Rock from Santa Cruz, Calif. and Count Blastula from Syracuse, N.Y.”

In a message to Xpress, bassist Anthony Dorion writes, “We will be releasing two albums as well as recording a very high profile film soundtrack in the year to follow, but this will officially be our last live appearance as Silver Machine.”

Catch them while you can! And if you do want to attend the show, consider buying tickets in advance from the band — they’re offering free CDs and buy-one-get-one deals prior to the show.
