Smart Bet web extra: “The Baltimore Waltz”

“When Anna, a schoolteacher, is diagnosed with ATD (Acquired Toilet Disease), she and her brother Carl take flight to Europe. Anna decides to drown herself in the sensuality of food and sex, while Carl becomes involved in a wild scheme to find a cure for his sister,”  says the synopsis of The Baltimore Waltz, the new production by Anam Cara Theatre. The play by Paula Vogel is a series of dark comic vignettes. It was written by Vogel in response to the 1988 AIDS-related death of her brother before they were able to take a planned vacation to Europe.

Erinn Hartley directs the Anam Cara production. The cast includes Emily Wooton as Anna, Michael Rose as Carl and John Gordon Baugh VI as Third Man. Zack Harding and Trevor Walker will perform a live music score. The play takes place at Toy Boat Community Art Space, 101 Fairview Rd. Shows are Fridays and Saturdays, March 21, 22, 28 and 29, at 8 p.m. $12 advance/$15 at the door.
