Stephanie’s Id: Endangered no more

In order to make room for the nine-day Asheville residency of The Smashing Pumpkins, the Orange Peel had to bump a “double CD-release” party for local groups Menage and Stephanie’s Id. There was quite a bit of grumbling over the decision from some fans, and it also left both bands scrambling to find new venues for their release parties.

While Menage is still looking (the group briefly announced a Grey Eagle show, which now appears to be canceled as well), there’s good news from Stephanie’s Id. The band recently announced that they’ll be holding the release party for their new studio album Grus americanus on Friday, June 29, at the Biltmore Garage at 101 Fairview Road. in Asheville. (Interestingly, the show is scheduled for the same date as their canceled Orange Peel performance.) Admission is $10.

The venue, which is located behind the French Broad Brewery, may not be as high-profile as the Peel, but the band still seems pretty happy about it. According to their MySpace bulletin, the venue is “a sweet spot just east of Biltmore Village, with a great stage and sound system.”

And, if that weren’t enough, the band will also be giving away crane-themed candy bars from the Endangered Species Chocolate company with each copy of Grus americanus (which is, of course, a slight variation on the scientific name of the whooping crane).

Coincidentally, this movie is being played in the parking lot behind Orbits DVD in West Asheville (Bledsoe Building) on Friday June 8 for their monthly free movie.
