Can’t make it to Lake Eden Arts Festival? Going to LEAF but wish it began sooner? LEAF artist Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience performs two special events on Friday, Oct. 17 as part of outreach program LEAF in Schools & Streets.
Creole musician Simien has been on a mission to educate audiences about the indigenous Zydeco music of the French speaking Creoles of south Louisiana. His Creole for Kidz program (a multi-cultural arts-in-education performance) has reached over 60,000 students K-12, parents, and educators.
Catch Simien’s Asheville-based special shows at 10:30 a.m. (at The Orange Peel; info: 225-5851) and at 4 p.m. (at Asheville Community Theatre; info: 254.2939). Tickets are $3 at the door, children under age 5 are free.
Families, school groups, after-school programs and the general community are encouraged to attend. Call 686-8742 or email Outreach@LakeEdenArtsFestival.org for reservations. Financial assistance may be available through Asheville Area Arts Council’s KidsTix program (Info: 258-0710).
