• Freegrass Revival plays Americana and bluegrass at The Town Pump (135 Cherry St, Asheville, 669-4808). 8 p.m., $3.

• Indie-pop trio Now You See Them, singer/songwriter Angi West (pictured) and Mat Evans of Just Die! take part in the newsworthy Drawing Club book launch at Harvest Records (415-B Haywood Rd., West Asheville, 258-2999). 8 p.m., free.

• Rockers Convalescence join the Telic CD release show at The Boiler Room (11 Grove St., Asheville, 505-1612). 8 p.m., $5.

• Christian Imes’ innovative A.D. (pictured) plays electronica (with a video!) at Club 828 (64 N. Carter St., Asheville, 252- 2001). 9 p.m., $5.

• Forty Furies rocks the New French Bar (12 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, 225-6445) with Death of Analog. 9 p.m. $5.

• Rafe Hollister schools Mo Daddy’s (77 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, 258-1550) on the finer points of Mountain Rock. 9:30 p.m.

• Rock/soul/country artist (and just back from Paris!) Joshua Singleton (below) takes the stage at Tall Gary’s College Street Pub (4 College St., Asheville, 772-1489). 9:30 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 9
• Singer/songwriter Jenne Sluder plays a free show at Straightaway Cafe (722 NC Highway 9, Black Mountain, 669-8856). 7 p.m.

• Sweet Water Revolver (pictured) sing excellent, soulful harmonies. They’ll be at Firestorm (48 Commerce St., Asheville, 255-8115). 7 p.m., tips.

• New York folk rocker Laura Meyer joins local pop rockers Lewis at Mo Daddy’s (77 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, 258-1550). 9 p.m.

• Check Lichtenberger and Matthew Richmond’s jazz project Spies Among Us (pictured) plays BoBo Gallery (22 N. Lexington Ave., Asheville, 254-3426) at 9 p.m. $5.

• Spooky roots-rock trio Baby Cowboy takes the stage at Jack of the Wood (95 Patton Ave., Asheville, 252-5445). 9:30 p.m., $5.

• Swampy/jazzy/retro/acoustic group Woody Pines rounds out the night at Westville Pub (777 Haywood Rd., West Asheville, 225-9782). 9:30 p.m.

    I wish I could go to Fred’s Pub to see the tremendous ALBATROSS PARTY perform on Saturday, January 9 as well….

    But I am hosting my birthday party at Club Eleven, along with musical performances by Juan Holladay of Secret B-Sides, Sven Hooson, Jenny Fisher, and beat poet/drummer Roberto Hess….there’s a $5 cover.
