Some art is hard to understand. When you’re working with abstract forms or the subtle manipulation of colors, there may be multiple—and equally valid—interpretations of meaning and nuance. But with some kinds of art, you really don’t need to think that hard about it to appreciate what you’re being shown. For instance, “Chicken Stomp.”

When it comes to things like fire dancing, hula hooping, “techno contra dancing” and bellydancing, you’d be hard pressed to find a place more supportive than Asheville. But I think we can do better. Like becoming a national magnet for all things Lindy Hop. And if you think that’s an unattainable goal, just take a look at this recent Ashevile performance by The Killer Dillers, showing off their award-winning routine “Killer Diller Man From The South” on New Years Eve.

And while we’re all thinking about eclectic dance forms Asheville is known for, we really shouldn’t forget the whole aerial dance thing that’s become so popular in recent years. Here’s a member of local aerial dance company the Libravado Sisters performing the “Lyra” routine.

These days, West Asheville is a relatively quiet place, but only a few years ago that wasn’t the case. Why? The roar (or at least dull buzz) of the Asheville Motor Speedway, that’s why. Now the location of Carrier Park, this Amboy Road location was once the place to watch regional auto racing. If you want to relive the memories, or are merely curious about this piece of Asheville history, here’s a short video documenting this bygone era.

Do you love beer? How about stop-motion animation? Both, you say? Prepare, then, to have your mind blown by this stop-motion animation about beer, filmed on location at Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company.
