Video A-Go-Go: A Summertime Sampler

It’s summer, and for many people that means it’s the season for outdoor sports. But are you one of those folks who just can’t be bothered to actually go outside in the heat and experience the thrill of, say, mountain biking? How about the next-best thing? Here’s mountain biker Chris showing us the highs and lows of pedaling the trails in Bent Creek.

Although it’s only been a week since the crazy-race-to-the-finish deadline for the Asheville 48 Hour Film Project, and a few days since the short films were screened publicly for the first time, it’s only fitting that the participating filmmakers are rapidly posting them to the internet for the world to see. Let’s take a look at the not-exactly upbeat short Deep End, an entry in the “Suspense Thriller” category directed and edited by Tony Torn.

Having a bit of a hum-drum Sunday? How about adding a little whimsy? Here’s a “sampler” of clips from Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre and New Studio of Dance’s production of Alice in Wonderland, recorded last month at the BeBe Theatre.

Think the Asheville Hoop Jam is just a goofy downtown fad? Think again. It takes real dedication to keep those hoops moving in the middle of a rainstorm, and these folks have it.

It’s quite a testament to the songwriting genius of John Lennon that just shy of 30 years after his death, a song he wrote that is at least partially about a world without religion is performed with reverence in a decidedly religious performance space. Here’s the Scott Camp Student Orchestra performing “Imagine” at a recent recital held in Asheville’s New Hope Presbyterian Church.

Each week, dozens upon dozens of interesting local videos are uploaded to YouTube. It’s a lot to keep up with. Did we miss a particularly interesting, recently uploaded local video?
