Friday, Sept. 3
• Young Couples (formerly Pavane & Galliard) perform at the Rat Jackson CD release party at the Boiler Room (11 Grove St., Asheville, 505-1612). Lush harmonies, cool instrumentation. 10 p.m.
Update: This show has moved. From the Facebook invite: “Due to Unavoidable last minute cancellation by Rat Jackson, we have had to call off the show at the Boiler Room. We will still be playing a show tonight but at a different Venue and with a different band. Here’s all you need to know:
Common Foundation and “just added” Young Couples play THIS friday at Town and Mountain, 261 Asheland Ave. Going toward downtown on patton asheland is on your right and its at the bottom of the hill. *All Ages* *BYOB* Entrance is still FREE! Come out for a night of live, local musical talent. Join us to break bread and drink at 8, Music will start at 10. Bring your dancing shoes and a smile!”

Saturday, Sept. 4
• Shortwave Society from Knoxville “uses elements from orchestral and electronic soundscapes to create a unique accompaniment to their off-kilter pop songs. Violin, cello, and a sea of vocals weave intricate tapestries while guitar and pianos pulse, and electronic bleeps and blips fill every nook and cranny of your subconscious.” They’ll be at White Horse (105C Montreat Rd., Black Mountain, 669-0816) at 8 p.m.

• Funk/jamband Kung Fu Dynamite gears up for a 10 p.m. show at Mo Daddy’s (77 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, 258-1550). New-on-the-scene alt-rock/pop trio Arbor Bueno opens.

    Unfortunately, Rat Jackson will not be performing due to a family tragedy. Young Couples will now be headlining, with supporting act TBA.
