• Pack’s Tavern (20 S. Spruce St.) holds its Countdown to 2011, a New Year’s Eve celebration with three floors of entertainment, two DJs, multiple bars, party favors and a champagne toast. $10 advance tickets are available at the venue. Come early for a buffet dinner in the Century Room — $28 per person includes the ticket price of the party.

• Asheville FM‘s New Year’s Eve Satellite Dance Party happens at Desoto Lounge (504 Haywood Rd.) and Rankin Vault (7 Rankin Ave.). • Get your new year’s on early. And with beer. Americana musician Dave Desmelik takes the stage the stage at French Broad Brewery (101-D Fairview Rd.). 6-8 p.m., no cover.

• Also early-ish: Electronic Voice Phenomenon performs at French Broad Chocolate Lounge (10 S. Lexington Ave.). 8 p.m.

• There’s a New Year’s Eve Underground Music Explosion at The Corner Pocket (389 Merrimon Ave.) featuring Sara Bloomfield and Bill Walters of Blue Stone, Jack Jones and the Magic Gumballs with much collaboration and improvisation. Says the Facebook invite, “If you know, you’ll be there. AND, it’s FREE! With the donation of a warm coat, hat, blankets, to help our brothers and sisters out there in the cold. Bring your extra warmth and we’ll warm you to your very soul with extraordinary explosion of rock and roll fusion.” Free, midnight.

• Southern rockers Velvet Truckstop (above) will be at Pisgah Brewing Company (150 Eastside Dr., Black Mountain). Doors at 9 p.m.
