In case you didn’t know, this coming Sunday is Oct. 10, 2010 — or 10/10/10. Which looks neat in your checkbook register, but since no one writes checks anymore, what else does the triple digit mean?
Well, according to one webpage on How to Interpret 10/10/10 aka 10-10-10, “Mathematics 101010 (base two (binary)) equals 42 (base ten). Oddly enough, this is evenly divisible by the number of days in a week (7 (lucky)); and equally oddly, is also evenly divisible by the number 6 (which is generally designated as being unlucky). Both a Ying and Yang situation seem to be incorporated into this date.” Got it?
Now put away your calculator, because there’s more than numerology at work here. Like fun events. Like 10:10:10 Global Peace Gathering & StarGate Portal Opening and the Asheville Zombie Walk.
• Vortex Tours Research Center takes over Pack Square with the 10:10:10 Global Peace Gathering & StarGate Portal Opening from 6-9:30 p.m. Everyone is invited and admission is free. • On a completely different note, the Ashtoberfest annual Zombie Walk shambles through Asheville on 10/10/10 A.K.A. World Zombie Day. Zombies will gather, leave from and return to Asheville Pizza at 77 Coxe Ave. “after a circuitous route of fun and madness through downtown.” Meet between 5 and 6 p.m. for preliminary events; stay after the walk for the fourth annual Zombie Pub Crawl at select destinations downtown.
Find more Zombie happenings here, including The Ashtoberfest Music Festival at Eleven on Grove (11 Grove St., Asheville) on Saturday, Oct. 16. Doors at 9 p.m.
Then, on Sunday, Oct. 17, “all day, the Ashtoberfest Film Festival at Firestorm Cafe. We will be premiering Night of the Living Dead Reanimated (a collection of animators have replaced the film action with various types of animation, from stop action to single cell.) and featuring the local horror film by Dave Kabler Wanderlost.”
Will XPress’s Michael Muller be reprising his award-winning Zombie shuffle this year?
In addition, several of Asheville’s grassroots and environmental organizations have collaborated to put together Asheville 10-10-10 Climate Action Day 10-4pm at the George W Carver Edible Park and Stephens Lee Rec Center parking lot.

With your help, 10/10/10 is going to be the biggest day of practical action to cut carbon that the world has ever seen.
Nearly 6,000 events are planned in 183 countries for the 10/10/10 Global Work Party.
In the Asheville area, Transition Asheville is spearheading a full schedule of activities with the Bountiful Cities Project, WNCA, Asheville Greenworks and the Linking Waters Project. I hope to recapture my “Best Male Zombie” title from 2008 — when I was outside the Civic Center terrorizing (in a non-threatening way, of course) the hundreds of people waiting in line to see Governor Palin.
They’ll be four of us this time…but I’m not telling who :)
We’re coming to get you, Barbara…
Pretty verbose for the undead, MM. Repeat after me:
gnth…pfffrt…brains…Chad Nesbitt…
We should not be opening Star Gates until we consult the USAF. Might get Wraith up the Ying-Yang. And they feed on “the depths of our inner-being”, don’t they?
I’m not (un)dead yet
Oh, any opportunity to watch a Monty Python clip:

Hey, maybe here’s a theme idea for you: “Bring out your Undead! (Clank)”
I set ’em up, you hit ’em ;)
quite simply put..the remainder of society are zombies and sheep..see you there
wait, zombie sheep? Or sheep AND zombies? And wouldn’t the zombies just eat th sheep? And then they’d be zombie sheep, anyway!
