Not your average gallery crawl
One night, three openings — all fashion-oriented. While many fans of new clothing and unique accessories feel that clothing and jewelry deserves art-gallery status (complete with wine and cheese to celebrate the arrival of a new line) that’s rarely the case. Fanfare is generally limited to glimpsing the perfect dress on the rack, if not in the display window. But on Friday, Dec. 8, three openings turned fashion into hors d’oeuvres-worthy celebrations. Xpress was on hand to take notes.
The Beauty Bar (70 Wall St., 285-2992) introduces a line of jewelry by local artist Briana Benkoczy. Here, a multi-strand turquoise bead necklace.
Another necklace with matching earrings from Briana Benkoczy’s line “Shine.”
Photographer Rene Treece (pictured here) showed an exhibit of her photos — many including dresses by local designer R. Brooke Priddy — at the Wedge Gallery (151-B Roberts St.).

Newly opened boutique Zakya (61 Haywood St., 254-9890) features elegant women’s wear, like this hooded sweater dress.
Zakya’s “low-key luxe” style includes everything from jeans and tees to surprisingly comfortable evening dresses, like this one.
