Smart bets: The Amazing Acro-Cats

Samantha Martin, the animal trainer behind performance troupe The Amazing Acro-Cats, received her introduction to the business through an unlikely antipode: rats. After initial success with The Acro-Rats, Martin realized she needed a more appealing animal to take her show on the road. Cats were the answer. She’s trained her gang of stray and orphaned felines to jump, scurry and even perform musical numbers on command. With appearances on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and Animal Planet’s “Puppy Bowl,” these kitties — including members of Tuna and the Rock Cats, the world’s only all-cat (and one chicken) band — are no strangers to the spotlight. Martin has also helped 200 homeless cats and kittens find homes. Catch The Amazing Acro-Cats on Sunday, May 7, at 2 p.m. at Diana Wortham Theatre. $19-$39. circuscats.com.
