Two local art exhibition, though very different, both present women in dialogue with the artistic process.
Americans Who Tell the Truth, an exhibition of Robert Shetterly’s portraits of advocates and activists, opens at the YMI Cultural Center Saturday, Sept. 19.
In New Terrain, an exhibition currently on view at Blue Spiral 1, the sculptures of Hoss Haley and Robyn Horn suggest the structural underpinnings of a landscape in their geometry, and like the graceful prints of Hannah Skoonberg, the art objects themselves function as enacted landscapes. Painter Charles Ladson is represented as well.
Beneath all the irony and bleak comedy lies pronounced carnality, vulnerability and a tactile emphasis on figure. Jensen’s paintings engage the viewer as frames of an individual mind — intimate, nonsensical, damaged, absurd.
