10th annual Celebration Israel Festival and Expo, April 26

Celebration Israel Festival and Expo will be held on Sunday, April 26, at Congregation Beth Israel (229 Murdock Ave.)

Press release from event organizers:

There’s something for everyone at the annual Celebration Israel.

This year, Celebration Israel has a new name: Celebration Israel Festival and Expo. The new name reflects the new array of attractions at the festival. In addition to family-oriented fun and great food, we’ve added informative and enjoyable educational programming to the day. Posters, presentations and videos will allow attendees to learn about on science, technology, medical research, alternative energy and more exciting innovations from Israel.

The festival is a community celebration held each year to commemorate the creation of the state of modern Israel and to share Jewish culture and foods, and to present a day of family fun for Asheville.  You certainly don’t have to be Jewish to be part of the fun. The entire Asheville community is invited to join in the festivities. There will be seating both inside and out. Festival-goers are sure to enjoy lounging in our Bedouin tents.

The Jewish Community Center of Asheville sponsors its annual Falafel 5K & Camp Ruach Fun Run the morning of the festival. The 5K begins and ends at the JCC, while the Fun Run takes place at Weaver Park, across the street from the festival. The Fun Run is for kids ages 2-12. Participants enjoy a free sandwich or children’s activities at Celebration Israel at the conclusion of their respective athletic events.

As in past years, there will be Israeli dancing for all ages.

The Kids’ Play Zone is free. It features a bounce house, slide, juggling, hula hoops, clown, face painting, balloon art by Mr. Twister Too!, arts and crafts, an archeological dig, henna hand painting.
