After some last-minute scrambling to get the building ready, Invest Collegiate Imagine — one of two new charter schools in Buncombe County — opened its doors Tuesday to around 350 students, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported.
“Everything went very smoothly,” said Jennifer Townley, head of school at Invest Collegiate. “We practiced for several days.”
The school is currently housed in a converted gym at a shopping center on Brevard Road, and it will eventually serve students from kindergarten to 12th grade.
The school opened with kindergarten through sixth grade and with ninth and 10th grades. It will add more grades in the next two years and by the third year will cover all grades from kindergarten to 12th, Townley said.
