AIR hosts first job fair March 26

Press release from Asheville Independent Restaurant Association:

ASHEVILLE, NC: Asheville’s vibrant culinary community is hiring!

The Asheville Independent Restaurant Association (AIR) invites the public to the first official AIR Job Fair Tuesday, March 26 at the Hilton DoubleTree in Biltmore Village from noon – 5 p.m.

“This is an extremely unique opportunity,” said Peter Pollay, owner of Posana in Downtown Asheville. “What other job fair offers the ability of potential employees to interact with so many local restauranteurs? People that are interested in the hospitality/restaurant industry should attend the AIR Job Fair since all booths will have independent restaurants looking to hire.”

Owners, chefs, and managers from AIR restaurants throughout the county will be on hand to discuss open positions to launch job seekers into the bustling business of Asheville’s vibrant food & beverage industry.

“The single biggest challenge facing AIR restaurants is staffing,” said AIR Executive Director Jane Anderson. “AIR jobs are good jobs and can provide incredible career paths.”

Employers seek to fill an array of positions including front of the house servers and bartenders, back of the house kitchen staff, management, marketing services and much more.

Admission to the 2019 AIR Job Fair is free to the public.

Since its inception in 2003, AIR has contributed significantly to the quality, vibrancy and stability of Asheville’s culinary culture, making it a national destination for innovative, distinctive food.

AIR restaurants provide meaningful employment opportunities and career paths for thousands of people annually.

According to a 2018 survey by Magellan Strategy Group, AIR restaurants employ a total of 5,841 people in Buncombe County with the average hourly wage ranges from $13.75 for non-tipped restaurant employees to $19.46 for tipped restaurant employees, well above the 2017 hourly average of $11.72 for all Food Prep & Serving Related Occupations in the Asheville Metro area.
