Aloft Asheville Downtown has a history of puppy love: The hotel periodically partners with animal shelters to raise awareness and funds through special event programming and also houses adoptable pups from Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue one at a time, year round. It’s no surprise then, that the hotel has planned a day full of festivities for Wednesday, Aug. 26, National Dog Day.

Starting the day at 11:30 a.m., is the hotel’s adoption fair, featuring a video broadcast of Charlie’s Angels dogs via Twitter’s new livestreaming app. At 12:15 p.m., participants can take an adoptable companion for a downtown stroll while learning about local dog-friendly activities. At 1 p.m., the dogs will return to Aloft’s re:mix lounge for playtime, and at 1:30 p.m., attendees will learn about the hotel’s pup programming.

The event is open to the public, and attendees will be offered light refreshments and $20 credits from Uber.

For more information about the National Dog Day adoption fair and festivities at Aloft, call 407-4300 or visit the hotel on Facebook.

Aloft Asheville Downtown, a McKibbon Hotel Management property, will partner with Visit North Carolina (VisitNC) on National Dog Day – August 26, 2015 – with a video broadcast on Twitter’s livestreaming app, Periscope, featuring an adoption fair with dogs from Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue. The adoption fair and National Dog Day festivities will run from 11:00am to 2:00pm in the hotel’s motor lobby and re:mix lounge.

The event is open to the public and attending guests will have the opportunity to meet dogs and fill out an application to adopt. Light refreshments will be available and the rideshare app, Uber, is supporting the event and will offer a free ride code with a $20 credit for all attending guests.

For dog lovers looking to watch the day’s festivities live on Periscope, the action begins at 11:00am with a look at what will happen during the livestream. The broadcast continues with:

11:30am: see adoptable dogs playing in the hotel’s motor lobby and learn more about Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue;

12:15pm: take a walk in downtown Asheville with an adoptable dog and learn about dog-friendly activities in the area;

1:00pm: see adoptable dogs playing in the hotel’s re:mix lounge;

1:30pm: experience a hotel stay at Aloft Asheville Downtown from a dog’s perspective and learn about the hotel’s dog friendly amenities.

Wit Tuttell, executive director of Visit North Carolina, said statistics from the Travel Industry Association of America underscore the importance of dog-friendly lodging to North Carolina, the nation’s sixth most-visited state. According to the association’s findings, 14 percent of U.S. adults say they have traveled with a pet in the past three years; 78 percent of them travel with their dogs.

“With visitors planning 48 million trips to North Carolina each year, you can see why having dog-friendly lodging and experiences in a destination such as Asheville is an important asset to the visitor economy in Buncombe County,” Tuttell said.

Aloft Asheville Downtown began partnering with Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue to foster rescue dogs last summer, housing one dog at a time who wears an “adopt me” vest and can be taken to a new home after being screened and matched with the right family. Since its inception, the program has helped 39 dogs find their forever home, a number that will continue to grow.

“We are excited to partner with VisitNC and Charlie’s Angels on National Dog Day to help more dogs in Asheville find their forever homes,” said Aloft Asheville Downtown’s general manager David McCartney. “In addition to helping this cause, the live Periscope stream allows us to show our passion for dogs – we hope dogs and their owners will be watching and planning their next visit to Asheville!”
