McKibbon Hotel Management, a leading hotel management company with more than 80 properties and owner and manager of Aloft Asheville Downtown, is pleased to announce that the hotel’s General Manager David McCartney has been appointed to serve a three-year term on the Asheville Downtown Association board of directors.

The Asheville Downtown Association is a non-profit organization committed to the preservation and improvement of Asheville’s central business district. The association works to make downtown Asheville the center of commerce, culture, government and leisure. Together, the Asheville Downtown Association board of directors and members support the vitality of downtown through public advocacy, political involvement and community events. The organization produces a number of major annual events including Easter on the Green, Downtown After 5, Asheville Oktoberfest, Pritchard Park Cultural Arts Summer Series, Asheville Holiday Parade and JingleFest.

“The Asheville Downtown Association is very pleased to elect David McCartney to our board of directors,” said Executive Director Meghan Rogers. “David brings a wealth of experience in the tourism industry from many cities across the Southeast, but particularly from his longtime history of managing hotels in Asheville.”

McCartney is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Aloft Asheville Downtown, where he has served as general manager since 2013. McCartney has more than 30 years of demonstrated success in the hospitality industry and has won numerous awards for his leadership and proven success in achieving operational efficiencies and business goals. He has worked with brands such as Courtyard by Marriott, Marriott International, Hostmark Hospitality Group and New Castle Hotels. McCartney is an active member of the Asheville community and serves on the executive committee of Homeward Bound’s board of directors. Last year, he volunteered for the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County and the YMCA of Western North Carolina’s fundraising campaigns.

“I am honored to be part of the outstanding group that the Asheville Downtown Association has chosen to serve on its board of directors,” said McCartney. “This is an exciting time to be involved in downtown Asheville, and I look forward to continue helping our downtown become a more vibrant place for visitors and Asheville locals to enjoy through this role.”
