Here’s the message sent out via email from the Patsy Keever campaign:
United We Stand!
I am really looking forward to Independence Day in North Carolina! I will be attending 4th of July events throughout the 10th Congressional District, sharing barbeque and watermelon and cold clear water, and probably looking for a shady place to sit and chat with others looking for a respite from the heat.
I know before I start there’s something I’m going to see no matter where I go. It’s something special.
Sometimes I will see it in the window of a shop. Sometimes I might see it on the back window of a pickup truck. I’m confident I will see some on front porches and I will see others being held by children.
The American Flag. Old Glory. The Stars and Stripes. The Star Spangled Banner.
I know what it means when I see that grand old flag. It’s an individual person’s way of taking a stand … a way of saying “I am a proud American.” For many, it is a way of remembering our troops who are still on foreign soil and those who shed their precious blood to protect our freedoms. For still others it is a reminder that “United we stand. Divided we fall.”
In today’s America, there is so much that divides us. It seems that everywhere we turn there are disagreements, arguments and ill will. On the Fourth of July, we can let all of that go. On this day, we can reflect upon the things that bring us together … our love of country … our hard-won freedoms … our shared vision of America as a great Democracy that has stood the test of time.
I hope I see you at a barbeque or a parade. I hope we get a chance to talk. I hope you will fly your own flag on this special day. I hope you will join me in raising a prayer that our country can find its way through these difficult times. If we work together we can accomplish anything.
