Animal Control seeking owner of a dog who bit a young girl on Wall Street July 12

Press release from the City of Asheville:

Animal Control needs your help to locate the owner of a dog who was at 90 Wall Street on Monday, July 12, at approximately 8 p.m.  A four-year-old girl was walking past a man and his dog when the young girl startled the dog causing it to jump on her. The adults believed that it was only small scratches at the time and parted ways. Shortly afterwards the girl notified her mother that there was a small bite that broke her skin.
If the owner is not located within the next 36 hours the victim will be required to receive the rabies post-exposure regimen of shots.
The owner is described as a white male of average height with a medium/thin build. He has short wavy blonde hair and a short trim beard that is slightly darker than his hair color. They believe he was wearing khaki shorts and a peach colored shirt at the time of the incident.
The dog is described as medium to medium-large in size. It’s a blonde or yellow dog with curly fur and they can remember she is a female dog. They also recall a red or red and white leash.
Animal Services should be contacted if anyone has information about this gentleman and his dog at 828-252-1110.
If you have been bitten by a dog:
  1. Get as much information as reasonably possible about both the owner and the dog(s).

    1. Full name, phone number, address and physical description of the dog owner.
    2. Full description and rabies tag information (tag number and issuer) of the dog(s).
  2. Report the bite to the local Animal Services Division. In Asheville, contact (828) 252-1110. An Animal Services Officer will respond. This may initially be done by phone.
  3. After any bite a dog will be placed on a 10-day quarantine. Oftentimes this quarantine occurs at home, with the owner.
  4. If an owner cannot be located within 72 hours after a bite the victim should start the post-exposure rabies series, per Health Department protocol.
