Press release from the Asheville Police Department:
Sherwayne Akeem Bascom was arrested in Waterbury, Connecticut on the morning of June 11, 2020, following an operation by the United States Marshal Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Waterbury Police Department. In addition to the arrest of Bascom, Shanice Sheronda McDay, 27, of Asheville, was arrested for an outstanding warrant for accessory after the fact to first degree murder after Asheville Police Department (APD) detectives developed information regarding her association to Bascom.
Bascom and McDay were taken into custody without incident, and are awaiting extradition back to North Carolina. The APD would like to thank the Carolinas Regional Task Force and the Waterbury Police Department for their significant assistance in this case.
Sherwayne Bascom, Tyran Burton, and Dajour McDay are all facing first degree murder and attempted first degree murder charges in the death of Adrian Terrell Smith and the attempted murder of another man in Pisgah View Apartments on April 3, 2020.
