UPDATE: APD investigating shooting that sends man to hospital in critical condition

Update: Asheville Police Department detectives have identified the shooter as Terrence Lamont Burt Jr. (11/25/1999). He has been charged with attempted 1st degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, and discharging a weapon into occupied property. He was arrested with the help of the Weaverville Police Department and the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.

Burt was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $500,000 secured bond (or $50,000 to a bondsman) issued by the magistrate.

The Asheville Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred late Wednesday night, leaving a 68-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.

APD Patrol Officers responded to the 40 block of Mount Clare Avenue around 10:48 on Sept. 6 to investigate a report of a gunshot wound. Responding Patrol officers arrived to locate a man suffering from four gunshot wounds. Officers quickly began to administer medical aid until EMS arrived. He was transported to Mission Hospital in critical condition.

Detectives have identified a person of interest and are actively investigating this shooting. They are asking anyone who may have information about the case to send an anonymous tip by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
