APD investigating shooting that sends man to the hospital with serious injuries

Press release from Asheville Police Department:

Asheville Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred early this morning, leaving one man with life-threatening injuries.


APD Patrol Officers responded shortly after midnight on July 5 to Maple Crest Apartments located on Lee Garden Lane to investigate a report of a gunshot wound. Responding Patrol officers arrived to locate a large crowd and a man suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Officers quickly began to administer medical aid until EMS arrived. He was transported to Mission Hospital in critical condition.


APD’s Criminal Investigations Division Detectives and Forensic Technicians arrived soon after to begin their investigation and were able to recover physical evidence. 50 shell casings were recovered.


Detectives are actively investigating this shooting and are asking anyone who may have information about the case to send an anonymous tip by texting TIP2APD to 847411. Since January 1, 2023, the Asheville Police Department has responded to 266 calls for service reporting shots fired or someone being shot. In addition, 16 people have been shot in Asheville this year. So far, officers and forensic technicians have recovered 320 shell casings from these crime scenes.

    People in public housing have suffered. Organized crime is a growing problem. Affordable, quality public housing with great security in not.

    50 shell casings. What is involved that so many bullets get fired and APD can’t be on scene close to when the last shot is fired?

      APD is spread too thin and THIS makes another great example of WHY the Housing Authority of Asheville should be FORCED to fund and provide their own police 24/7. NO mayor nor city council has EVER had the balls to DEMAND such accountability from HACA and it is past time. Do we have any balls on this council ? no. it’s a pathetic squad of imbeciles…
