APD seeking public’s assistance in early morning gun discharge investigation in East Asheville

Press release from Asheville Police Department:

Asheville Police are investigating an early Tuesday morning gun discharge that occurred in east Asheville. Thankfully, no one was injured; only property damage has been reported at this time.

APD Patrol Officers responded to the 200 block of Kenilworth Road to investigate reports of gun discharge around 2:56 a.m. on June 27. When officers arrived, the suspect was no longer on the scene. Officers completed a walk-through of the area and located an occupied apartment that had been struck by gunfire. While canvassing the area, officers located 28 shell casings from different caliber guns.

APD Detectives are asking for the public’s help. If anyone has any information about this incident, you are encouraged to contact APD at (828) 252-1110.  Or you can send an anonymous tip using the TIP2APD smartphone application (search “Asheville PD” in your app store) or by texting TIP2APD to 847411.

Since January 1, 2023, the Asheville Police Department has responded to 250 calls for service reporting shots fired or someone being shot. In addition, 15 people have been shot in Asheville this year. So far, officers and forensic technicians have recovered 251 shell casings from these crime scenes.
