APD seeking public’s help in drive-by shooting investigation

News release from the Asheville Police Department:

The Asheville Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place Wednesday night, leaving one man with non-life-threatening injuries.

Asheville Police Department officers responded to Myrtle Street around 9:14 p.m. on December 20 to investigate a report of a gunshot wound in which a man was shot. Officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the arms. Responding officers applied a tourniquet to the victim until the arrival of EMS. The victim was transported to Mission Hospital for treatment and released.

Occupants inside the residence told police while having a small gathering, they heard gunshots shortly after and realized bullets were coming into the residence, two of which struck one of those inside. While canvassing the residence, officers located 55 shell casings and damage from bullets, along with four vehicles parked outside of the residence.

So far, in 2023, there have been 441 shots fired incidents and 28 people injured or killed by firearms in Asheville. Crime scene investigators have recovered 609 shell casings across 69 of those incidents.
