APD seeks public’s assistance in identifying assault suspect

Detectives say the suspect can be described as a black male, 5'10" - 6'0", with short hair.

The Asheville Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a man wanted in connection with a serious assault that occurred late Wednesday night.

APD officers responded to the 160 block of South French Broad Avenue around 9:57 p.m. on March 27 to investigate a report of an assault. When they arrived on scene, they found an unresponsive man lying on the ground with apparent lacerations to the head. The man was transported to Mission Hospital by Buncombe County EMS to be treated for his injuries.

Upon their investigation, officers determined that two men got into a verbal altercation when the suspect assaulted the victim. The suspect left the scene prior to the officers’ arrival.

Following review of area surveillance video footage detectives say the suspect can be described as a black male, 5’10” – 6’0″, with short hair. Last seen wearing a black puffy jacket and bleached purple pants. The suspect is believed to be traveling in a Red Kia Soul.
