Arrest of suspect in fire at French Broad Elementary School

Press release from Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office:

Asheville, N.C. (February, 6, 2019) – The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office has taken Justin Edward Caristo into custody in connection with the fire at French Broad Elementary School in Alexander. Mr. Caristo, age 40 of Buncombe County, is being held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility and has been charged with:

  • 1st Degree Arson
  • Malicious Damage to Occupied Property by Use of an Explosive or Incendiary
  • Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • 2nd Degree Kidnapping
  • Felony Breaking and Entering

Sheriff Quentin Miller would like to thank the Woodfin Police Department, Fire Marshall and SBI for their assistance in this investigation.
