Asheville Catholic School to open innovative, eco-friendly building

Press release from the Diocese of Charlotte:

ASHEVILLE — Asheville Catholic School will host a grand opening Thursday morning to celebrate the completion of its dramatic and environmentally-conscious addition, a project totaling $3.9 million. Join us for the ribbon-cutting and tours with students, Principal Michael Miller, pastor Rev. Patrick Cahill, and Bishop Peter Jugis.

WHEN/WHERE: Thursday, Aug. 26th at 10:45 a.m.
Asheville Catholic School, 12 Culvern St., Asheville, NC 28804

BACKGROUND: Asheville Catholic School’s 12,000-square-foot addition – the first for the school in nearly four decades – includes six classrooms, a dedicated art room, common areas and more. Every aspect of the project incorporates environmentally-friendly design elements, from energy-efficient LED lighting to pervious surface parking to collect stormwater runoff. The most exciting and visible aspect is the addition of over 200 solar panels to the roof (beginning in September) that will power the entire school. School and diocesan leaders are proud to unveil this latest project in the Diocese of Charlotte’s growing portfolio of environmentally-friendly building initiatives, answering Pope Francis’ call for everyone to care for God’s creation and combat climate change.

INTERVIEWS: Michael Miller, principal, and Rev. Pat Cahill, pastor, available on request.

MEDIA CONTACTS AND RSVP: Tara Hackman, thackman@charlottediocese.org, 919-672-2749

SPECIAL NOTE: Please wear face coverings and practice safe distancing. Ribbon-cutting will be conducted outdoors. Tour will immediately follow the ribbon-cutting.
