Press release from city of Asheville:
ASHEVILLE – Asheville City Hall will remain closed Friday, January 9 due to water damage from a burst water pipe. City Hall and related offices closed mid-day Thursday, January 8 after a pipe burst on the building’s seventh floor. It appears the rupture is weather-related.
Customer service calls on Friday will remain functional, being transferred to an answering service. Utility payments can be made online at ashevillenc.gov or dropped off at payment boxes located near City Hall and the Public Works building at 161 South Charlotte Street. No combined utility delinquent notices will be processed between Thursday, January 8 and Monday, January 12.
All city Board and Commission meetings scheduled for Friday are cancelled.
All City of Asheville facilities, with the exception of City Hall, will operate as normal on Friday. Public Safety and water service will not be affected by Friday’s closure.
During the course of the building’s closure, essential personnel will work remotely to continue to provide service at the highest level possible.
The Asheville Fire Department and the General Services Department are assessing the situation and the hope is that City Hall offices will reopen in some capacity on Monday, January 12.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
So will the local “right-wingers” be up in arms over this closure as they were when the Registrars office was closed due to snow?
