Asheville Museum of Science and The Collider team up for Beer City Science Pub Fall Line-Up
Local science & local beer collide as AMOS & The Collider provide Friday night science programming to the community.ASHEVILLE, NC – October 28th, November 18th, & December 16th– The Asheville Museum of Science (AMOS) is pleased to announce their Beer City Science Pub Fall Line-Up. Mark your calendars as the Collider hosts three free evenings of science. Doors to the Collider open at 5:30pm and talks begin at 6:30pm.
The Beer City Science Pub series returns October 28th, bringing local scientists, local citizens, local beverages, and local food together under one roof for an entertaining night of scientific learning. October’s talk will be given by Tom Maycock and Dr. Jennifer Runkle of the Cooperative Institute for Climate and Satellites-North Carolina. They will present, “Climate Change and Human Health,” findings from a major scientific assessment exploring the various impacts climate change has on human health. Asheville Brewing Company will be donating beer for visitors to enjoy as they tour the Collider and settle in for a night of scientific entertainment.
On November 18th Scott Jennings, head brewer at Sierra Nevada in Mills River, returns to the Beer City Science Pub stage as he presents, “Hop Into Beer,” on the cultivation, use, and impact of hops to the brewing process.
To complete our Beer City Science Pub Fall Line-Up, Dr. Leah Greden Mathews, Interdisciplinary Distinguished Professor of the Mountain South, will present, “What is the Value of WNC’s Food System? Evidence From the Field,” as she shares results from several studies conducted in Western North Carolina on the economics of our local food system. These include the benefits that residents and visitors receive from farmland, the value of social interactions at farmers markets, and the veracity of the Appalachian Grown local food label. Throughout the talk, emphasis will be placed on the significant role that intangible values such as scenic quality, cultural heritage, and social capital play in the food system and economy overall. Burial Brewing Co. will be brewing a small batch brew specifically for this event!
