For those concerned with the ongoing housing shortage in and around Asheville, a recent meeting of the city Planning and Zoning Commission shed some light on several upcoming projects that may address the issue. At a July 16 meeting, the commission reviewed plans for four multi-unit residential buildings and a hotel around the city’s South Slope and Oakley neighborhoods, according to the commission’s meeting minutes.
The site-plans being reviewed include a five-story structure at 185 Coxe Avenue, which would contain 146 residential units in addition to 288 associated parking spaces. The 1.71 acre parcel is currently owned by South Slop Holdings, LLC.
A second proposed five-story structure, located at 56 South Lexington Street, would allow for 32 housing units with a retail component on the ground floor on the .19 acre lot. The parcel is currently owned by Public Interest Projects, Inc.
Another proposed building would bring 140 multi-family residential units and associated parking structure to a 1.13 acre lot located at 55 Market Street, located at the corner of Spruce Street and Market. The review includes two variances related to parking and right-of-way considerations.
In addition to the three site-plans passed by the Commission, there was also a preliminary look at a proposed five story building at 11 Collier Avenue, which would contain 48 multi-family units and a two level parking garage. The review period has been extended until September 2, at the request of the applicant, Collier Avenue Properties, LLC, to consider a variance in design and operational standards.
There was also a review for construction of a five story, 70,470 square foot hotel building at the corner of 800 Fairview Road and 150 River Ford Parkway, located in the vicinity of the River Ridge Shopping Center.
The Asheville Planning and Zoning Commission will meet again on August 5, 2015.
