News release from Asheville Police Department:
The Asheville Police Department is investigating an armed robbery and assault that occurred at an Asheville apartment early Monday morning.
APD officers responded to an apartment in the 100 block of Bartlett Street around 2:40 a.m. on March 24th to investigate a report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers spoke with two victims who told officers that two men had entered the residence while they were sleeping and assaulted them. When one of the victims attempted to call 911, the assailants took their phones and fled. Both victims sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment.
Following the investigation, one suspect was identified as Keithan Deshun Whitmire (10/15/1982). Officers have secured warrants and charged Whitmire with the following:
-Felony Break/Enter Terrorize/Injure
-Felony First Degree Burglary
-Assault on a Female
-Simple Assault
-Assault with a Deadly Weapon
-Interfering with Emergency Communication
Whitmire has not been located. He is described as a black male, 42 years old, 6’3”, 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes with a mustache and beard. He has multiple tattoos, including “HILL” and “LIL KILO” on his right forearm, “CREST” and “LIL ROUND” on his left forearm, and “KILO” on his upper arm.
