Press release from Asheville Police Department:
Asheville, NC (January 31, 2025): The Asheville Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian with serious injuries in downtown Asheville last November.
Officers responded near the intersection of Haywood Street and Montford Avenue around 5:42 p.m. on November 8, 2024, to investigate a hit-and-run with injuries. Upon arrival, emergency personnel were rendering aid to the victim, who was transported to Mission Hospital with serious injuries and is currently recovering.
Through investigation, including a review of available surveillance video, it was determined the victim was riding a skateboard on Haywood Street when they were struck from behind by a burgundy Toyota RAV4, which continued without stopping.
Police believe a bystander may have recorded the incident on their phone and urges that person or anyone with information to come forward.
If you have any details that could help identify the vehicle or driver, please contact the Asheville Police Department at (828) 252-1110. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the TIP2APD smartphone app (search “Asheville PD” in your app store) or by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
