Asheville police use drone technology to apprehend armed men

From Asheville Police Department:

Asheville Police Department Officers, in coordination with the rapid deployment of drone technology, were able to quickly locate and apprehend two men with guns Friday afternoon.

APD officers responded to the area of Lee Garden Lane around 1:34 p.m. on July 26 to investigate reports of several individuals with guns in a parking lot. Within a minute of the call being received, a first responder drone was on the scene and was able to search the area and locate the individuals entering a vehicle matching the description given that was attempting to leave the area prior to officers arriving.

The drone was able to follow the vehicle and provide real-time updates to officers. Officers, guided by the drone’s observations, were able to locate and make contact with the occupants of the vehicle.

Jerome Tymaine Heard (11/01/1996) and Jerquayle Emanuel Heard (06/14/1999) were taken into custody and charged with Carry Concealed Gun. During the arrest, both were found to be in possession of concealed firearms. Officers also recovered extra ammunition and an extended magazine.

The collaboration of first responder drone pilots and officers led to the swift apprehension of the suspect.
