Arbor Day celebration to feature tree plantings, children’s activities, nature walks, safari-style Jeep® tours, and the revitalization of Asheville GreenWorks’ Treasured Tree program
Event on March 17 at Asheville Zipline Canopy Adventures is free and open to the public and will include property being named a Treasured Tree Preserve
From the press release:
Going green on St. Patrick’s Day has new meaning this year as Asheville GreenWorks hosts the community’s annual Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, March 17, at Asheville Zipline Canopy Adventures, adjacent to the Crowne Plaza Resort near downtown Asheville.
The event, free and open to the public, kicks off at 11 a.m. with a brief ceremony and proclamation from the National Arbor Day Foundation honoring Asheville with a Tree City USA Award for the 32nd consecutive year. Asheville GreenWorks will also designate the zipline property, which features 150-year-old white oaks, red oaks, tulip poplars, and hickory trees, as a Treasured Tree Preserve. Asheville GreenWorks is revitalizing its Treasured Tree program, which brings attention to valued trees in the community, and all current owners of Treasured Trees are invited to attend and receive special recognition.
Following the program, the St. Patrick’s Day merriment will continue until 2 p.m., including tree plantings, a treasure hunt for children, nature walks and short safari-style Jeep® tours from Wildwater through the 125-acre property. In addition, Asheville Zipline Canopy Adventures will offer a special Arbor Day discount on zipline canopy tours. Reservations for the zipline tours are strongly recommended by calling 1-800-451-9972.
Asheville Zipline Canopy Tours is about one mile west of downtown Asheville. Take I-240 to Exit 3A (Hwy 19/23, also known as Patton Avenue). Turn right at the second light, next to Denny’s and Pizza Hut, onto Regent Park Blvd. As the road curves right, turn left onto Expo Center Drive at the sign for Asheville Zipline Canopy Adventures. AZCA is at the top of the hill on your left.
Formerly known as Quality Forward, Asheville GreenWorks is the local Keep America Beautiful affiliate. For more information about the event, call Asheville GreenWorks at 254-1776 or email info@ashevillegreenworks.org.
Locally owned and operated Asheville Zipline Canopy Adventures is part of the outdoor adventure company, Wildwater, established in 1971, and is the region’s only urban zipline canopy tour. Guests from ages 10 and older “fly” 20 to 70 feet above ground on zipline sections from several hundred feet long to the final, one-quarter-mile-long zip towards the Asheville skyline. The full course takes about two-and-a-half-hours and includes 10 zip sections, three swinging sky bridges, and a 54-foot tower with spectacular views of downtown Asheville and the surrounding mountains.
