Asheville group to attend Bob Moog’s induction into National Inventors Hall of Fame

Bob Moog’s Widow Ileana Grams-Moog, Moog Music President Mike Adams and Bob Moog Foundation Executive Director Michelle Moog-Koussa to Attend Moog’s Induction Ceremony Into National Inventors Hall of Fame

Bob Moog will be honored by The National Inventors Hall of Fame in an induction ceremony to take place on May 1st at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, Virginia. Founded in 1973, The National Inventors Hall of Fame annually honors “the individuals who conceived, patented, and advanced the great technological achievements since the birth of our nation.”

Moog’s widow, Ileana Grams-Moog, looks forward to attending the ceremony on behalf of her late husband. Said Grams-Moog, “Bob’s hero and model as an inventor was Leon Theremin, the inventor of the electronic musical instrument called the theremin. What Bob most admired about his inventions was their combination of simplicity and power, a combination mathematicians describe as ‘elegance.’ Bob’s inventions have this quality of elegance to a high degree, and I know that he would have been pleased to be recognized by the Inventors Hall of Fame.”
Moog Music President Mike Adams will also attend the ceremony on behalf of Moog Music, the company Bob Moog founded.

“Bob was very humble and accolades and awards never meant that much to him,” said Adams. “He described himself as a ‘toolmaker’ for musicians. Therefore, Bob would be honored to be inducted into the National Inventors’ Hall of Fame among other great toolmakers like Ray Dolby, the Wright Brothers and Thomas Edison. I want to thank Invent Now for recognizing Bob’s achievements.”

Michelle Moog-Koussa, Moog’s daughter and Executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation, will be accepting the award on her father’s behalf.

Moog Music is also donating tickets to the ceremony to two of the finalists in the Johns Hopkins University Collegiate Inventors Competition. Additionally, there are plans for celebratory events in Asheville next week in honor of Bob Moog’s induction into the Inventors Hall of Fame. The late Bob Moog, who died from a brain tumor in 2005 at the age of 71, is being recognized for Patent No. 3475623, more commonly known to Moog fans as the Moog Ladder Filter, an invention that has shaped the path of popular music. The patent was issued in 1969 and is best known for its use in the Minimoog Synthesizer, which has been used by artists ranging from Michael Jackson to Brian Eno.
