Asheville Sleep Center receives accreditation from American Academy of Sleep Medicine

From the press release:

Asheville, North Carolina – May 3, 2012 Asheville Sleep Center at Parkway Medical Group in Asheville recently received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). To receive a five-year accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. The accreditation process involves detailed inspection of a center’s facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts, and physician training. Additionally, the facility’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Asheville Sleep Center at Parkway Medical Group on fulfilling the high standards required for receiving accreditation as a sleep disorders center,” said Dr. Nancy Collop, AASM president. “The Asheville Sleep Center at Parkway Medical Group is a significant resource to the local medical community and will provide academic and scientific value in addition to the highest quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.”

“This is a significant milestone in our sleep center’s development,” says Daniel Hey, medical director of the Asheville Sleep Center, “and we are gratified at the recognition of the center’s excellence and of our staff’s training and expertise. The most enjoyable part of sleep medicine is seeing that improvement in something so basic to life — the quality of our sleep — also leads to such immense improvement in overall quality of life.”

Asheville Sleep Center offers diagnosis and treatment of the full range of sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, circadian rhythm disorders, leg movement disorders, and REM sleep behavior disorders. The center features an on-site sleep lab for overnight studies, on-site sleep study interpretation, as well as on-site availability of CPAP equipment for the treatment of sleep apnea.
