Another tall crane was noticeable this morning, towering above the footprint of the coming 7 story Health and Human Services add on facility. The new construction was approved this Jan. despite reservations about the staggering $48.5 million price tag. Pressure to meet federal regulations drove the approval.

Also visible in the above photograph, on the right, is Mission Hospital where an even larger 12 story facility was recently approved.

Looking in another direction, the Asheville AC Hotel (franchise of Marriott International, Inc.) continues to march toward the sky. Demolition of the old BB&T parking garage began in Dec. 2014. The new 9+ story, 132 room hotel with an integrated 336-space parking deck is slated to open next summer.
