PRESS RELEASE:
Wednesday, June 8, 2016, the 28th Judicial District Bar (JDB) presented Assistant District Attorney Al Williams, Jr. with the 28th JDB Professionalism Award.
The 28th JDB Professionalism Award was established by former Buncombe County Bar President Roger Smith in 2004 to annually recognize an individual member of the Bar whose consistently courteous, respectful, and professional conduct toward the Court, attorneys, clients, and other parties exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism.
“I was very surprised and honored by this award. I am very appreciative of all the hard working people I work with each day in the District Attorney’s office,” Assistant District Attorney Al Williams said.
Williams is the first member of the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office to ever receive the award.
“Al’s innovative thinking, even temperament and commitment to justice have always worked to ensure an efficient, and fair system of justice in this County,” District Attorney Todd Williams said.
The award was presented by attorney Thomas Amburgey, also of the 28th Judicial District Bar.
Al Williams joined the District Attorney’s Office in the 90s and has served under two elected District Attorneys. Throughout his career, Al Williams has handled cases of all types from misdemeanors to First Degree Murders.
Since 2008, Williams’ position within the District Attorney’s Office has been to review felonies at an early stage in District Court. Williams’ work has been credited with saving tax dollars by reducing the average daily inmate population in the Buncombe County Detention Center.
